Adopt a Pet!

and find that "rescue" is your new favorite breed

Available Pets

Meet our adoptable adoptable pets! If you're interested in adopting one of them, fill out the appropriate application below to begin the process. Our adoption process is also outlined below so you know what to expect as we work to help you find your new furry companion.

If you live in the DC metropolitan area, you can complete the online adoption application below, and one of our team members will be in touch within one-two weeks with updates on the status of your application. Please note that our ENTIRE rescue is run by volunteers and their volunteered time, which is why we are unable to respond immediately or on weekends in most cases. Due to our small size, we are also unable to adopt out of the immediate DC/MD/VA area. If you are unsure if you're within our range, or if you have any questions, please contact us at foreverchangedar@gmail.com. If you don't hear from us in 72 hours, please check your spam folder to see if our email has been filtered into your spam/junk folder.
Current Fees

The adoption fee goes towards the direct care of all the pets within our rescue. Often times, the cost to rescue and take care of the pets in our care far exceeds the adoption fee. We appreciate any and all monetary donations to help us continue to follow our mission and save dogs and cats in high risk situations.

Puppies under a year: $425

(plus $50 deposit refunded after puppies are spayed/neutered)

Adults 1-8 years: $350

Seniors: case by case, but no more than $200

Cats & Kittens: $150

(plus $50 deposit refunded after kittens are spayed/neutered)

Our Adoption Process

Thanks to FCAR's amazing network of volunteers, our pets are never kept in a kennel; they are placed into foster homes as they await their forever families.

For each dog that comes into our rescue, a FCAR member or one of our local contacts will conduct a behavioral evaluation. If they pass our evaluation, they will then be placed into foster homes. While under the care of our fosters, they will work on house training (some dogs come house trained, but there is no way to know until we get them into the foster home), basic commands, and crate training. During the animal’s time in the foster home, we will also learn a bit more about the animals' personalities, likes and dislikes, and the type of setting would be the best fit for that particular animal. To us, finding the right fit for each pup and each family is our ultimate goal.

Our animals are medically up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered if they are old enough, microchipped, and dewormed. If they have any other medical issues found while in our care, we treat those as well. We have 3 veterinarians on our board, and they work tirelessly to ensure that all of our animals are medically well cared for.

The adoption process starts with the submission of the application. As part of the review process, our team will call landlords (if applicable) to ensure a pet is allowed and veterinarians to check on the medical care of current and past pets. If the initial steps pass with flying colors, we’ll be reaching out to schedule a virtual home visit. After the virtual home visit and the above mentioned parties have been contacted, an in person meet and greet will be scheduled. Following the meet and greet, both the applicant and foster will let us know how they felt it went. If all parties felt that it went well, we will wrap up the application with the reference checks. Once the application passes all the above, you will be approved to adopt!

There is a one-week trial period. If at any time during this week you decide that it isn't a good fit; you are to return your newly adopted pup or cat to the rescue and your adoption fee will be returned. Any time after the week-long trial period has ended and you decide you can no longer keep the pet, you will need to return him/her back to the rescue and the adoption fee will not be refunded.

We look forward to helping you find your next furry companion!
